Print Shop

The Lakeside School, in cooperation with The First Occupational Center of New Jersey, offers students a unique opportunity to learn the basics of the printing services business. Students participate in many aspects of printing, production, and through a step-by-step process, produce two and four-color offset print jobs. Students gain confidence in a supportive environment while getting hands-on experience by working in the Print Shop of The First Occupational Center of New Jersey.

Our Printing Services Program includes:

  • Career Opportunities - exploring career paths within the printing and graphics industry.
  • Maintaining the Press - how to safely use and maintain printing equipment.
  • Digital Scanning - getting a file ready for printing and various graphics software programs.
  • Platemaking - how to make digital plates for printing.
  • Press Operations - Essential skills in preparing the press for printing. Differences in printing jobs of different colors, from one color to four color process.
  • Safety Procedures - Knowledge of OSHA guidelines. How to properly handle press solvents, read MSDS sheets, locate emergency numbers, and safely operate a press.
  • Post-Production - Various elements of the post-production process, including operations in finishing and bindery.
  • Utliizing Math Skills - Students learn how to apply basic math skills necessary in printing services.
